White Rainbow is one of my early paintings made for the Coast Road Diaries exhibition, and is based on trips to Eilean Munde , ‘The Island of the Dead’ which appears to float on beautiful rocks in the middle of the sea loch Leven, off shore from the slate town of Ballihulish. It rained incessantly that summer, and the lush greens seemed to mellt around the hard slate gravestones of past highland lives.
I found this place on an art expedition led up by Richard Demarco and the Majestic Line of Boats in company with Marian Leven and Frances Walker.
The work is currently on tour in the exhibition ‘The Coast Road Diaries 2007-2009’ catalogue available from The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh Scotland £10 + p&p.
