Kate Downie

One of the Coast Road Diary monotype series, this is an early print based on drawings made upon waking early in my borrowed camper van, hunting down the elusive influence of one of Scotland great artists; Joan Eardley. Catterline is a magical micro world at the bottom of a north east cliff where Eardley made her studio during a critical era of her artistic life. In this picture I look across to her old studio ‘The Watchie’ silhouetted on the opposite headland.
